2. Personal information we may collect
Depending on how you use the website, we may process information such as your name, email address, telephone number, billing and delivery addresses, account information, order and transaction details, product-format selections, contact-form messages, newsletter subscription and consent information, IP address, device or browser information, and website usage information.
3. Why we process personal information
We process personal information where reasonably necessary to operate the website and store, process and fulfil orders, arrange delivery, provide eBook access, administer customer accounts, communicate about orders and enquiries, maintain transaction and accounting records, prevent fraud and misuse, secure and maintain the website, improve website performance, comply with legal obligations and, where you have expressly subscribed, send marketing or newsletter communications.
4. Orders and payments
Payments are processed using PayFast. The payment methods shown at checkout depend on the payment methods enabled and available through PayFast at the time of purchase. Payment-related information is handled through the PayFast payment process and may be subject to PayFast’s own privacy and security practices.
5. Physical delivery
For physical-book orders, the information required to fulfil delivery may be shared with The Courier Guy, including the recipient’s name, contact details and delivery address.
6. Hosting, email, backups and technical support
The website, email services and backups are provided through Afrihost. Website security is supported by Wordfence. Witzenberg Online provides website administration and technical support and may access website or customer information only where reasonably necessary to provide those services, maintain the website or resolve a technical issue.
7. Analytics
The website uses Lean Analytics and Google Analytics to understand website use and performance. Analytics information may include pages viewed, approximate location, device or browser information, referral information and online identifiers such as IP-related data, depending on the configuration of the service.
8. Newsletters and direct marketing
Newsletter and marketing subscriptions are managed using GetResponse. Marketing communications are sent only to people who have expressly subscribed or where another lawful basis exists. Every marketing message should provide a reasonable way to unsubscribe. Unsubscribing from marketing does not prevent us from sending transactional communications about an order or customer account.
9. Cookies and similar technologies
The website may use essential cookies required for WordPress, WooCommerce, security, customer accounts and Cart or Checkout functions. Analytics services may also use cookies or similar technologies. Where consent is required by applicable law for a non-essential technology, it should be used in accordance with the visitor’s available privacy choices.
10. Sharing personal information
We do not sell personal information. Information may be shared with service providers where necessary for payment processing, delivery, hosting, email, backups, analytics, newsletter management, security, technical support, professional advice or legal compliance. Information may also be disclosed where required by law, court order or a competent authority.
11. Cross-border processing
Some technology, analytics, newsletter, payment, delivery or other service providers may process or store information outside South Africa. Where personal information is transferred across borders, we aim to use service providers and arrangements that provide appropriate protection as required by applicable privacy law.
12. Retention
Personal information is retained only for as long as reasonably necessary for the purpose for which it was collected, to maintain order and customer-account records, meet tax, accounting, legal or regulatory obligations, resolve disputes, prevent fraud or protect legitimate business and security interests. Information that is no longer required should be deleted, de-identified or securely archived where appropriate.
13. Security
Reasonable technical and organisational measures are used to protect personal information against loss, unauthorised access, misuse, alteration or disclosure. Measures include controlled administrative access, website security monitoring, backups, software maintenance and the use of specialist service providers for payment processing and hosting. No internet service can guarantee absolute security.
14. Your rights
Subject to applicable law, you may request access to personal information held about you, request correction or deletion of inaccurate or unlawfully retained information, object to certain processing, withdraw consent where processing is based on consent, and lodge a complaint with the Information Regulator.
Privacy requests may be sent to orders@inkofklaassen.com.
